Meet the Team

Jan Bissell is the director of ABnc’s parent company, Edsoncombe Pty Ltd, and has been part of the business for almost 33 years. She relocated to the Sunshine Coast in the late 1980s and has a long history of high-level administrative management within the construction industry. Jan’s diverse role involves setting the company’s strategic direction, overall financial management, overseeing sales and marketing and ensuring a safe, professional and efficient environment for all staff members and clients. She enjoys her daily interactions with management and staff and is always striving for the highest standard of professionalism in every aspect of the business. A fine dining and wine enthusiast, to unwind Jan enjoys bike riding, kayaking, going to movies, reading and travelling.

Greg Bissell is ABnc’s director and supervises the Warana Powder Coaters Chemical Treatment area and the loading and delivery of finished product to various sites. He has been with the company for five years and says the most enjoyable part of his work is being part of team that has been constantly willing to change and adapt to suit challenging conditions over the past few years (that and getting home at the end of the day). Greg moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1976 and owned and operated his own panel beating and crash repair business for more than 20 years before joining the ABnc team. A motorbike enthusiast, he likes renovating and rebuilding old cars and boats (anything old, really), kayaking and bike riding.

Sam Bevis is ABnc’s General Manager and oversees the general day-to-day operations of the business, as well as the setting of strategic future goals. He has been with the company since 2002, when he worked part-time, initially during his school holidays and later while studying a Bachelor of Business and IT at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

After graduating from university Sam commenced a Structural Fabrication apprenticeship within ABnc and became fully qualified in 2010. He has since worked his way up through the company from a trades assistant to installer, fabricator, estimating, sales, project manager and finally to General Manager in August 2013.

Sam enjoys meeting and working with new people and the day-to-day problem solving his role requires. He is a lifetime resident of the Sunshine Coast, and outside work he enjoys video games and all things technology, playing rugby league, union or Oztag, bourbon and anything that’s not to do with housework or gardening.

Marianne McCann - Office Administration

Marianne McCann is ABnc’s administration manager and looks after human resources, workplace health and safety, financial and accounts management and a range of other administrative tasks, working alongside the General, Sales, Production and Installation Managers to ensure the company’s smooth day-to-day operation. Marianne will have been with ABnc for 10 years in July 2014 and thrives in its relaxed, friendly team environment. In her spare time she loves gardening, spending time outdoors and experimenting with cooking exotic recipes and cuisines. Marianne also enjoys using Skype to keep in contact with family and friends overseas, and as an avid dog lover she is looking forward to welcoming a new family member next year – a Giant Schnauzer puppy, who she hopes to show in future.

Dave Russell is ABnc’s estimator, cost planner and all-round sales guru. He has been with the company for two years and has worked in the building industry since the day he finished school (he even majored in engineering and metalworks at high school). He is trade qualified in timber and has been working with metals since moving to the Sunshine Coast seven years ago.

Dave’s favourite aspect of his role is winning and completing projects for clients. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family (especially his children) and is interested in health and fitness, camping, fishing, 4WD, motorbikes and cars, good company and engaging conversation, and last but not least all things sport – especially when the Kiwis are kicking some Aussie butt.

Des Brockhurst is ABnc’s Production Manager and has been with the company for 15 years. He started as a trades assistant in 1999, and worked as an installer from 2001 to 2009; he then moved back into the workshop as lead fabricator and in 2013 completed his Boilermaker qualification.

He now supervises the workshop and is responsible for ordering materials, powder coating ,fixings and glass orders, receiving goods, delegating jobs to fabricators, and all the other day-to-day tasks necessary to ensure the workshop runs smoothly – opening and closing for the day, making Peter coffee… He enjoys working as part of the team and seeing the finished product of ABnc’s work.

Des has lived on the Sunshine Coast for 15 years and has previously worked on cattle stations and his family’s dairy farm. Outside work his interests include horses, camping and rugby league (go the Cowboys!).

Dave Walker has been with ABnc for almost 10 years and works as the Installation and Logistics Relocation Manager, which involves a diverse range of tasks including coordinating, facilitating and scheduling the transport of finished products to site. He also works with leading hands, ABnc’s fabrication and powder coating managers and external project coordinators to deliver on schedule, and enjoys the daily challenges this can bring – unreasonable time frames and poor surface trade finishes are what he lives for! Born and bred on the Sunshine Coast, Dave previously managed dairy farms and is an avid supporter of the local Palmwoods Junior Rugby League Football Club. A 10-year Bathurst veteran, he also enjoys V8 supercars, horse racing, NRL and gaming.

This year is Peter Howarth’s 29th year with ABnc. He started out working on the floor before becoming and apprentice welder and later getting his Boilermakers ticket. Peter’s qualifications also include a Diploma in Welding and Certificates 4 in Advanced Welding and Competitive Manufacturing.

Now ABnc’s draftsman, Peter enjoys the mateship and camaraderie of the drawing team and has lived on the Sunshine Coast for more than three decades. His hobbies outside work include Jujitsu

Ken Doel is a powdercoater with 13 years’ experience and has been working with the ABnc team for 18 months. He previously owned and operating his own mowing business, but says you can’t beat the feeling of having a powdercoating job come out looking beautiful. A lifetime Gympie resident, Ken is looking forward to relocating to the Sunshine Coast and his spare time likes motorbike riding, repairing PCs and gaming, playing golf and spending time with his kids, family and friends.
